One of the most magical parts of winter in the Smoky Mountains is Winterfest, which takes place in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and the surrounding areas each holiday season. Stroll down the streets and witness twinkling lights and holiday cheer around every corner, including at some of the area’s most popular attractions. For instance, you can stop by Dollywood to check out their Smoky Mountain Christmas celebration, featuring lights, music, and a holiday drone show at nighttime! You will have lots of chances to get into the holiday spirit when you participate in Smoky Mountain Winterfest.

2. Scenic Surroundings

Another of the reasons why winter in the Smoky Mountains is a magical time is the beautiful landscape with gorgeous sights that you can take in when you come to visit during this time of year. There is something about snowfall in the mountains that inspires a sense of wonder, with snow-capped mountains as far as the eye can see. Whether you decide to take a scenic drive to enjoy the surroundings or check out an attraction like the Gatlinburg SkyPark, you will love seeing the sights of the Smoky Mountains in the winter.

3. Opportunities to See Wildlife

Although you may not think of winter in the Smoky Mountains as an ideal time to see wildlife, it can be a surprisingly good time of year for spotting animals in the area. Since the foliage thins out significantly during the winter, it can be easier to spot wildlife moving through the trees. Just remember to always stay at least 50 yards away from wildlife and leave their habitat undisturbed so that everyone can continue to appreciate these incredible creatures.

4. Winter Recreation

Yet another reason why winter in the Smoky Mountains is a magical time is that you will be able to engage in all sorts of fun winter recreation when you come to visit. Head to Ober Mountain where you can go skiing, snowboarding, ride their alpine slide, and lots more. Snow in the Smokies brings lots of fun opportunities with it, and you can experience them all at Ober Mountain!

When you come to experience some of these incredible things, you will be able to see for yourself why winter in the Smoky Mountains is such a magical time. From holiday cheer to gorgeous mountain views and lots more, you are sure to have a wonderful time when you come to visit.
