Winter in the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg is filled with beauty, celebration, stunning lights and winter wonderland moments. Moments that you will treasure for a lifetime and want to experience time after time. Here at The Appy Lodge, we’ve put together a list of 4 of the best things to do in Gatlinburg in the winter:

1. Ober Gatlinburg

Above Gatlinburg sits one of the best places to truly enjoy winter, not only in Gatlinburg but in the entire Smoky Mountains region. Ober Gatlinburg has been one of the most loved tourist attractions in the area for years and it’s easy to see why. From ice skating to skiing and snowboarding, you’ll find winter fun for everyone. Are you wanting to start a family or weekend with friends tradition? Book a weekend at our hotel and then head up to Ober for some snow tubing fun! When you’re finished, return to our hotel in Gatlinburg and warm up in the hot tub or with a blanket around the fire pits. It’s certain to be a weekend that you’ll remember and want to repeat year after year.

2. Great Smoky Mountains National Park

If you’ve ever experienced winter in the Smoky Mountains, you’ll know just how magical the mountains are when they’re covered in glistening frost and snow. Hiking along a trail surrounded with fresh snow and along a Smokies stream covered in snow and ice is the perfect picture of a winter wonderland. Although the park often closes Newfound Gap Road, you can still access many areas of the park from downtown Gatlinburg on snow days. A few areas like the Gatlinburg Trail, Roaring Fork and Greenbrier are not only accessible during those times, but are also within 30 minutes our hotel.

3. Winterfest

Here in the Smokies we love to celebrate! And winter is no exception. Winterfest is a favorite among guests in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge areas. Until late February each year, you’ll find extraordinary light displays, parades, fun runs, tours and more. There is plenty of excitement for the whole family.

4. Snow Day at Our Gatlinburg Hotel

As the holidays pass each year and life starts to calm down again, sometimes we just need a relaxing getaway. If you find yourself at a place where snow is in the forecast or even sunshine, and you just want a quiet getaway — come stay with us! You’ll find our hotel to be a home away from home. Stay in one of our King Suites and curl up on the loveseat, with a good book by the cozy corner fireplace. Take a stroll along the snowy streets of downtown Gatlinburg and browse The Shops at the Village, or enjoy wine tasting or dinner at one of our many restaurants. Finish off the day with a soak in our indoor pool or hot tub, or kick back by one of our fire pits and have a great night of sleep in our King-size and comfortable bed. Breakfast will be ready for you when you rise the next morning.
